His Grace, the Most Revd. and Rt. Hon Rowan D. Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury

Archbishop of Canterbury

Archbishop Rowan was enthroned as the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury in February 2003. He was consecrated Bishop of Monmouth in 1992 and became Archbishop of Wales in 2000. An author, poet, priest, lecturer and teacher, husband and father of two, Archbishop Rowan has had many books published, including Open to Judgement, Lost Icons, Resurrection, and Pathways to Glory.

He was Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity in Oxford and has addressed gatherings in Australia, USA, Uganda and many other places in the UK. He was in New York on 9/11, filming a spirituality programme at Trinity Church, Wall St, just in front of the World Trade Centre. From that horrific experience came the powerful book - Writings in the Dust.

We are most honoured to have Archbishop Rowan as our Patron, especially as he has stated that theological education, cultural encounter and spiritual formation are to be the primary focus of his ministry. As Archbishop of Canterbury he is President of the Anglican Communion, the Primate of All England, Bishop of his Diocese and sits in the House of Lords. His home and office is at Lambeth Palace in London and Old Palace Canterbury.
